Research Note

     Ernest Edward Chenery's details on the CWGC website show his mother as Mrs. Polly Chenery. On his Birth Certificate his mother's name is Polly Chenery and no father is recorded. There is no evidence to suggest that she married.

On his Baptism record his parents are recorded as Ernest & Polly Chenery.

     Ernest Edward Chenery was born on 29 Apr 1890 in Debenham, Suffolk, England.3 He was the son of Polly Chenery.2 His birth was registered in the Jun 1890 quarter in the Bosmere registration district.4 Ernest Edward Chenery was baptized on 3 Aug 1890 in St. Mary Magdalene, Debenham, Suffolk, England.5 He died on 12 Mar 1915 in Calais, Pas De Calais, France, at age 24; during WW1.1,2 He has no known burial place, and is commemorated on a Commonwealth War Memorial on Le Touret Memorial, Calais, Pas De Calais, France; Panel 8.1,2

Military History

  • In 1919 Ernest was awarded the British War Medal.7
  • He was commemorated in 1919; Doesnt appear to be commemorated on a Suffolk War Memorial.
  • In 1919 Ernest was awarded the Victory Medal.7
